Dementia Dignified Academy
Equipping caregivers and care partners with the skills and confidence to provide compassionate, loving care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
We are thrilled to share the impactful journey of our nonprofit, Dementia Dignified Academy, which was established on July 13, 2023, with a strong mission: to equip caregivers and care partners with the skills and confidence to provide compassionate, loving care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Our progress has been remarkable, fueled by tremendous support from faith-based organizations, communities, municipalities, and healthcare providers. This backing has strengthened our commitment to making a significant difference in the lives of caregivers and those they serve.
We have achieved extraordinary milestones. We successfully trained over twenty (20) passionate Dementia Connection Specialists whose dedication is making a tangible impact in their communities. The positive feedback for my book, “Journey of Compassion: Alzheimer’s Caregiving Unveiled (Empathy and Loving Strategies for Dementia Care),” has been overwhelmingly encouraging. Our presentations at various training sessions and speaking engagements, such as WGN, ABC7, The Onion: Peeling Back Strongholds TV Talk Show, and the Lori LaBey Alzheimer Radio Talk Show, have significantly amplified our message.
Our Journey of Compassion workshops are actively transforming communities, including First Baptist Church of Park Forest, the Auburn Gresham Senior Community, Chosen Bethel Family Ministries, Triedstone Church of Chicago, Green Garden MB Church, United Church of Christ, and the Delta Sorority Chicago Chapter. The warm reception of our educational programs highlights the urgent need for dementia-friendly environments, where compassion and understanding thrive.
This year, we are excited to host our second impactful fundraiser, “An Evening of Grace & Giving: Honoring Alzheimer’s Caregivers.” We will feature the documentary “Facing the Wind,” with our esteemed guest speaker, Carla Preyer, a dedicated caregiver for her husband who lived with Lewy Body Dementia. We will also honor two exceptional caregivers with awards that recognize their unwavering compassion and commitment. Our fundraising events are pivotal in empowering caregivers, providing them with essential self-care strategies.
At the heart of our initiative is our dedication to delivering high-quality, innovative training through the Dementia Connection Specialist module, which uniquely combines aromatherapy with our Dementia Dignified Academy approach, emphasizing the critical tools for Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
Our Board of Directors is composed of compassionate healthcare professionals and committed caregivers who share our mission to ensure that caregivers receive thorough and effective training to deliver the best care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
I invite you to join us in our mission. Together, we can fortify support systems for caregivers and their loved ones. Your involvement is vital in creating transformative change. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to collaborating with you.
